Let’s face it, I don’t have a ton of time when it comes to making dinner for the family. I’m usually pretty busy during the week but eating healthy is very important to us so I tend to cook 5-6 days out of the week for dinner. My current trick to making this happen is meal planning. Friday or Saturday I browse Pinterest to find some fun and healthy recipes. When I decided to change our eating around, I made sure that what I make at home is not only healthy, but also fun! I’m not a chicken and veggies kind of girl so I like to get super creative. Think cauliflower taco shells, sweet potato crust pizza and more! 

I also find that if I meal plan, our groceries are used up at the end of the week instead of having to throw whatever I bought extra of away when it goes bad. Before meal planning I would just by protein, veggies, some starches and throw meals together as I went. They were good, but not the healthiest and it’s way easier to have a plan and stick to it! 

I also have a few tools in the kitchen to help me out that makes using fresh produce quick and easy!

This Sur la Table dough scraper is everything. Yes, it’s usually for dough but I had to have it when I took a cooking class there with my mom. I love to use it to pick up veggies off of the cutting board to transfer them to the pan to cook! 

Chop chop chop! My favorite tool in the kitchen is absolutely this OXO chopper! I usually almost every night. I love to chop onions, jalepenos and more! It makes cutting up veggies so much more simple and quick. 

Garlic is totally my secret ingredient in almost any recipe I make. It’s good for you and brings lots of flavor to your dish. I love how the chefs on Food Network chop up their garlic finely while using a knife but unfortunately I don’t have the time nor the skills to pull that off. I cheat and use a garlic press. I love this one because there is a built in cleaner in the back to make ensure cleaning is also easy. 

Becoming the master of the kitchen wasn’t easy. It took me many years to get comfortable and achieve the flow I now have. Believe it or not, I used to hate cooking and left it up to my husband when we were dating! Now I love trying out new recipes and especially love prepping for the week. I’ve come a long way and you can too!
